History
Both Lemly Distribution and Chefs' Mart began life in the early
80’s. Lemly serviced Nursing Homes, Special Accommodation Homes and
Hostels with food products, while Chefs' Mart, or Chefmaster, as it
was known in the early days, was a Cash & Carry providing
catering food products for chefs, cooks and the general public.
In Oct 2000, Chefs' Mart moved into new facilities in Oakleigh,
trebling its storage capacity, allowing it to significantly improve
its service and expand its product range. In May 2002, Lemly
similarly moved into new facilities in Ringwood, which increased
its storage capacity fourfold.
November 2003 saw the merging of Lemly with Chefs’ Mart
Wholesale Foods forming Lemchef Food Service. Managing Director,
Steven Rubenstein, stated that for the past two years, our
corporate mission has been to become the leading supplier of food
service products in the Victorian marketplace through first class
service, excellent range and a commitment to satisfy our customers
with the products that they need and want. The formation of Lemchef
Food Service brings us one step closer to the accomplishment of
that goal.
In July 2004, Lemchef joined the Countrywide National Network
buying group which will enable us to offer an even more extensive
range and, at the same time, we will be able to provide exclusive
Countrywide products at even more competitive prices.Countrywide
In January 2005, Lemchef received HACCP certification which
gives all customers the confidence that products are delivered in
the best quality as per all government requirements.
By September 2007, Lemchef had significantly outgrown its
current premises and has subsequently moved to new, state of
the art facilities five times the size of the Oakleigh warehouse.
The business is now located at 159 - 161 Herald Street, Cheltenham,
which boasts a Cash & Carry where the general public are
welcome to not only purchase bulk grocery products but also our
huge array of party foods.
Lemchef Food Service also accepts Major Credit cards and is open
to the public from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.
We continually test and adopt new methods for improving our
service and upgrade our infrastructure to benefit our clients and
increase our capacity to exceed their expectations.
